A lot of people are excited for the big screen adaptation of Shazam!, and it now looks like we’ll get to see two different actors fill the role. In a recent interview with Collider, Director David Sandberg spoke about how the film would deal with the character’s transition from child to superhero.
Sandberg was asked if they would simply de-age a character and use technology similar to the one used with Chris Evans in the first Captain America film. He responded by saying “Yeah, I wouldn’t want to do that. That seems like way too much of a hassle. So I think it’s just kind of best to have a kid and an adult.” This makes sense if you think about it. Even in the comics, Billy Batson looks entirely different as a superhero than he does a child. Not only would this most likely be much more expensive to film in post production, but it wouldn’t be entirely true to the comics.
No casting has been made for either Billy Batson or Shazam! as of yet, but multiple actors have indicated interest. The Rock, who will be playing Black Adam, has teased Armie Hammer for the role. Shazam! has always been a fun superhero, as he is literally a child who gains super powers merely by saying the word “Shazam!” It is currently set to hit theaters on April 5th, 2019
