If there’s one thing Vin Diesel has a soft spot for, it’s for the blockbuster hits that helped kickstart his career.  Slash Film has reported that Vin Diesel will be shooting the third XXX film this December in the Phillippines.  Their source?  Vin Diesel’s own Instagram, which he posted yesterday.

Vin’s big break came in 1998 when he had a small role in Steven Spielberg’s war epic Saving Private Ryan.  Two years later, he was in a small sci-fi survival horror flick called Pitch Black.  Playing Riddick, a serial killer who could see in the dark thanks to polished eyes, Vin’s hard boiled anti-hero persona helped the film garner a devoted cult following.  He then starred in 2001’s The Fast and the Furious for director Rob Cohen, which today is now a billion dollar franchise that has earned Vin the ability to get the films he wants to make off the ground, like he did in 2013 with Riddick after 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick tanked at the box office.

But it was in 2002 that Vin teamed up again with Cohen to make their own version of James Bond – an extreme sports athlete turned secret agent.  XXX received mixed reviews but it did well enough financially that a sequel was planned soon after.  That sequel, however, did not have either Vin or Rob Cohen returning and XXX: State of the Union severely underperformed, burying the franchise for over 12 years.   Now, Vin’s desire to revive Xander Cage is among his list of top priorities.

The actor currently has The Last Witch Hunter due in theatres October 23.  He also has Ang Lee’s Iraq war film Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk with Kristen Stewart currently in post-production.  He is also expected to shoot Furious 8 next year and now he has a XXX sequel to prepare for.  The man has certainly been busy.
