The trailer for the new Will Smith movie Concussion focuses on Dr. Bennet Omalu (Smith), the doctor who discovered CTE, a type of brain trauma caused by repetitive football injuries. Bringing it to the attention National Football League (NFL), Omalu gets involved in a fight with one of the largest organizations in America, a corporation that owns a day of the week as claimed by one of the characters in the trailer.   fighting against the NFL because players are suffering from severe head Injuries as well as debilitating issues. This is caused by repeated concussions The NFL is denying it.  The release of the trailer occurred 10 days after the start of the 2015-2016 football season.

The trailer shows a different side of Smith. He speaks with a Nigerian accent and is bringing a more serious minded sensibility like he did with The Pursuit of Happyness and Ali.

As soon as the Concussion trailer debuted on line Will Smith’s film started causing a lot of controversy.  When Sony Pictures were hacked, certain emails were leaked.  The New York Times managed to quote an email that explains a lawyer from Sony taking “most of the bite” out of the film “for  legal reason”.  The film’s director Peter Landesman has since denied this claim, as has Will Smith. Landesman referred to the film as “ a David and Goliath story.

There has been no official comment from Sony Pictures or the NFL regarding the Concussion trailer controversy between the film’s accuracy or its possible portrayal of negligence on the part of the NFL.

Concussion is a highly anticipated film for the upcoming holiday season, most likely one that will compete in the Oscar race.
