Edge of Tomorrow was a fan favorite of pretty much every video gamer I know when it released in 2014. It’s upcoming sequel, “Live Die Repeat and Repeat” has Director Doug Liman more excited for it than he was for the original.
Ironically, this is the first time that Liman has ever created a sequel for one of his films. Those who saw it will know that not only did it get great fanfare and reviews, but it also left off in a place that set it up perfectly for a sequel. Liman noted that both he and Tom Cruise spoke with Yahoo Movies about how they felt they owed it to fans to bring a sequel into play:
Normally there are financial decisions behind making a sequel, but with this, it was just about us coming up with a story. Really, it’s not a world I was eager to go back to, because dealing with time travel can make your head hurt. But there was so much affection from fans of the movie — more than any of my other movies! — that Tom and I felt that we owed it to ourselves to at least think about what a sequel could be.”
The reason Liman is so excited is the timeline the film will take place in. According to Liman, “It picks up where the last one left off, but then we go backwards in time. I love it way more than the story of the original film” I can’t really explain how this will all jive together without spoilers, but it will definitely get those who saw the film excited.
Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt starred as soldiers who, without spoilers, had to complete objectives with unlimited tries. Each time they would die, they would be transported back to the beginning and have to start over. If you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest taking a couple of hours to check it out as it really flew under the radar as a surprise hit.
