We got so used to seeing Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury on screen. Whether it was in Agents of Shield on ABC or the Marvel films, Nick Fury became a staple character expected to be included. He has been absent from the last few movies, and now we know he also won’t be in Infinity War, the untitled Avengers 4 or Black Panther.
In an interview with Yahoo, Jackson noted that
“I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [Captain America: Civil War], I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to Black Panther-ville, so it’s kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!”
He was rumored to be in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie with Brie Larson, but he still hasn’t signed a contract surprisingly, despite Kevin Fiege indicating he was. “I haven’t signed a contract, haven’t seen a script. I talked to Brie [Larson] the other day, she didn’t say anything. She’s the only person I know that’s actually in the movie.”
I get that Nick Fury doesn’t have any powers and acts as more of the administrative wing of the Avengers. Even so, he’s the main guy behind the formation of the Avengers, and it’s surprising he won’t be in any of these films. You would figure he could show up in Infinity War atleast to give his proverbial pre-fight speech he’s so well known for. I do understand the move, however. At this point, Fury’s character isn’t really needed. The Avengers are already formed, and most of their battles are not on Earth any longer.
